Education through Conversation

The purpose of Barbershop Speaks is to engage in intelligent discussions to enlighten, educate, and empower the community. Given poor access to information and resources in underserved communities, there must be innovative approaches to bettering our livelihoods. Barbershops and beauty salons are hubs in every neighborhood that does not discriminate against race, religion, political persuasion, socio-economic status, age, etc. This makes them the perfect place to build spaces to spur financial, relational, and educational growth

  • Love

    BSS believes all humans were created to experience love and relationship. We aim to provide a conducive environment to foster those two great human needs through understanding, dialogue, cordiality, forgiveness, and integrity.

  • Education

    BSS believes in the value of educating one another through conversations. Being that we live in a world rife with information, some news or ideas reach some, while other concepts reach others. At the marketplace of ideas (the barbershop), information will be exchanged through dialogue.

  • Community

    BSS is centered around people in the community gathering together to sharpen each other while connecting to create lasting relationships.

  • Inspiration

    BSS believes in the value of inspiring its community. Many people fall victim to laziness, mental fatigue, and purposeless hunger because of a lack of internal and external inspiration. We intend on providing that external inspiration with the hopes of igniting the internal drive as well.

  • Unity

    BSS is a firm believer in “United we stand, divided we fall.” In order to make a lasting impact in our community, we must be united in presence, mind, and efforts.

  • Entrepreneurship

    BSS believes in the power of being producers and not only consumers. One of our main objectives is to encourage and nurture business ventures.

  • Economic Excellence

    BSS believes financial literacy is essential for the growth of any community. We will teach better ways to spend, invest, and save money depending on their level of income.
